The very first World Wide Web conference was held 20 years ago, on 27 May, 1994 at CERN in Geneva. Researchers and scientists participating in the conference expanded on Tim Berners-Lee’s concept on the storage of a variety of information
The plans and ideas discussed at the conference greatly assisted Berners-Lee in defining more accurately what was required. While earlier he used different programmes and locations to collect what was needed, he could simplify his work on the basis of discussions at the conference.
Participants found the concept of the World Wide Web and HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) equally useful, but few could envisage how quickly and to what extent the web would change the world.
