The ZX Spectrum is resurrected

The creator of the original ZX Spectrum also supports Vega’s development, the ZX Spectrum Vega, which is not a micro-computer, but a game console. Although it bears resemblance to the ZX Spectrum, the iconic computer of the 1980s, the Vega is actually purpose-built hardware that runs Spectrum games.

The Vega is being marketed by Retro Computers (www.retrocomputers.eu); Sir Clive Sinclair, creator of the original Spectrum, is one of the shareholders in the company.

The device simply needs to be connected to a television set, and one can instantly play any of the 1000 games squeezed into the memory of the console. It is still unknown when the ZX Spectrum Vega will be released in the market or how much it will cost exactly. There are functioning prototypes already, which means that development of the product has been completed and is ready to go into production. Retro Computers plans to manufacture 1000 units in total; necessary funds have been raised with an Indiegogo campaign. The product is scheduled to be launched in April, although not even the manufacturer could state a more precise date.
