Every year the US Postal Service (USPS) issues postage stamps that feature famous personalities. Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, will be one of the iconic people to appear on a stamp next year.
USPS first issued special commemorative stamps in 1957. A committee of ordinary citizens decides about famous people to get their own stamps. Decision is brought on the basis of a selection criteria prescribing that nominations should be “contemporary, relevant, interesting and educational”.
Anyone can send suggestions to the committee, which reviews all the nominations. This year for instance Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Solar System, and winter will appear on stamps. Next year stamps will feature Steve Jobs, Elvis Presley, James Brown, and sci-fi writers.
