Marvin Minsky, a legendary figure in artificial intelligence (AI) research, died on 24 January. Numerous obituaries have been published to pay tribute since then. Also in tribute to Minsky, a 25-minute interview with him done by Ray Kurzweil himself in 2010 was published on Kurzweil’s portal.
In the interview, Minsky shared his views on technological singularity. Singularity is a hypothetical event in the future when the emergence of artificial intelligence yields such accelerating progress in technology, and societal changes take place and change human life at such a rapid pace and in a way that this point may be impossible for humans living before singularity to comprehend or predict with reliability.

Minsky also talked about statements such as: “the brain is 400 different computers”, “identity is an illusion”, “emotions are different from thinking: that’s nonsense”, “we will need AIs because longevity is increasing”, etc.
