Twitter, one of the leading community networks and today's most popular short text messaging service, was launched on its way to conquer the world at 9.50 in the morning on 21 March. For the anniversary, a tool was made available that enables people to see the first message ever sent by any user. The simple function named #FirstTweet allows people to see not only their own first tweet, but that of any other (unrestricted) user.
The very first tweet (?just setting up my twttr?) was sent by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter. Dorsey was also the number-one designer of the project ?and system ? code-named twttr. The idea of the service came out of a brainstorming session at the podcasting company Odeo (www.crunchbase.com/company/odeo). The original concept was to share short messages through sms text messaging in a small group.
Twitter went public in July 2006, and achieved its first major success at the South by Southwest Interactive Conference in 2007.
