3D-printed Tetris T-shirt

Perhaps the best-known digital game of all times, the cultic Tetris (tetris.com) turned thirty years old in June. Its first version was released in the Soviet Union in 1984. It was initially designed for a terminal machine called Elektronika 60, then it came out for PCs two years later, for Amiga and Spectrum in 1987, and for Apple computers in 1988. The puzzle game was created by the artificial intelligence researcher Alexey Pajitnov.

Tetris was also hugely popular on Nintendo Game Boy. The American Electronic Gaming Monthly named Tetris as the greatest game of all time, while IGN ranked Tetris second in its rating of the “100 Greatest Video Games of All Time” in 2007. Approximately 200 million copies have been sold so far.

In March 2014, the Tetris Company announced that the game would be available for the latest hardware platforms such as Xbox One and Playstation 4. By the time Tetris turned thirty it has been released.

Marc Kerger, DIY-man based in Luxemburg, has been a great fan of the game since he was a child, and decided to celebrate the anniversary by creating a Tetris T-shirt. The remarkable T-shirt is powered by batteries, and it is playable by using 128 LEDs, an Arduino microcontroller board, and other hardware components. The buttons were created with 3D printing.

Kerger provided no instructions of use, but his design was based on a similar Instructables project, the Tetris Pumpkin (www.instructables.com/id/Pumpktris-The-Tetris-Pumpkin).
