Intel is 45 years old

Gordon E. Moore és Robert Noyce

Intel Corporation (better-known as Intel) was founded 45 five years ago on 18 July 1968 by Gordon E. Moore, famed for his law, and Robert Noyce. Originally, Intel was an American company that grew to be international with time.

The founders initially wanted to name their company ?Moore Noyce?, but the name did not sound good, and was ill-suited for electronics products, so eventually their choice fell on the acronym Intel, short for INTegrated Electronics. However, the name was already used by a hotel chain, and they had to buy the rights for the name and trademark.

At its founding, Intel had four employees, one of them Hungarian-born László Vadász, who became Intel’s vice-president in 1975, and served as a member of the board of directors from 1988 to 2002. The world’s first microprocessor, Intel 4004 was developed under his management. From the 1960s until his retirement in the 1990s, also Hungarian-born Andrew Grove worked on making Intel a global company giant. He did a good job.

Intel is, first of all, famous for microprocessors, but the company also manufactures network cards, motherboard chipsets, video cards and other computer devices. Intel’s greatest rival is AMD. Intel’s stocks are one of the thirty components in the Dow Jones Basket that is used to calculate Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA).
